The winner of the Ribble Valley Open exhibition 2018 has been chosen, and will have her work exhibited at Clitheroe Castle Museum next year.

Skelmersdale raised and Blackburn born artist, Willo Williams has won the main Selectors’ Choice award for her sculpture ‘Slowly Shifting Sands’, made from resin, sand and paint. Willo’s work will be showcased next year in the Steward’s Gallery.

The annual Ribble Valley Open exhibition is an opportunity for local amateur and professional artists to submit work on a given theme. The theme for 2018 was ‘extraordinary women.’

Visitors to the exhibition can still vote in The People’s Choice category and the winning artist will be announced in October. A visitor who has voted for the winning artist will be chosen at random to receive an Xplorer Friends and Family Pass, giving unlimited access to Lancashire museums for a year.

County Councillor Peter Buckley, Lancashire County Council’s cabinet member for community and cultural services, said: “I’m sure visitors will be impressed by the high quality of Willo’s work.

“Her work is very appealing. She is a worthy winner.

“I’m looking forward to seeing more of her work next year.

“Our annual Open Art exhibition really does give local artists a chance to show their skill and creativity.”

Willo Williams said: “I’m delighted to have won this. I love working in clay, and this year’s theme really got my creative juices flowing.

“I really am over the moon.”

The current Ribble Valley Open Art Exhibition runs until 24 September.

The Steward’s Gallery is open daily 11am to 4pm from April to October and 12 noon to 4pm from November to March.

Admission to the exhibition within the Steward’s Gallery part of Clitheroe Castle is free.
