Find out about how to keep warm at a Healthy Warm Homes event to mark National Fuel Poverty Awareness Day.

The market place session will take place at Dicconson group Practice, on Frog Lane, with a variety of market stalls which will be giving out advice about how to keep healthy, safe and warm.

There will also be chair-based exercise demonstrations and craft workshops along with information on debt and benefit, energy advice, access to heating and insulation grants and guidance to reduce energy bills.

The event has been organised by Wigan Council’s Affordable Warmth Access Referral Mechanism (AWARM) which helps people with low incomes, high energy costs and long-term health conditions. It is funded by fuel poverty charity National Energy Action and aims to raise awareness of the support available for people.

AWARM refers those who are need to a wide range of schemes which will help them to stay health, safe and warm at home.

As part of the event residents can find out how to receive a free healthy home check which can also point towards services which can help you enjoy a warm home.

Councillor Keith Cunliffe, portfolio holder for health and adult social care, said: “This is a great opportunity to find out about support from a range of services such as Inspiring health lifestyles, Wigan Care and Repair and much more. So why not come along and find out how you can keep your home warm and the support for others who may not know they are entitled to help.”

The event runs from 10am to 3pm on Friday 26th February at Boston House and there is no need to book just turn up on the day.
