£750k funding boost for youth services in Knowsley

Young people in Knowsley will be able to enjoy a range of activities across culture, media, arts and sports thanks to a successful bid to a major national funding programme by Knowsley Youth Mutual.

An allocation of almost £750,000 over the next three years means Knowsley Youth Mutual can now plan an exciting range of activities for the borough’s young people, expanding on what is already on offer and introducing new activities too.

The funding has come from the Youth Investment Fund (YIF), which is jointly funded by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport and The Big Lottery Fund. It will help fund new activities as well as several new posts to help deliver these to as many local young people as possible.

Knowsley Youth Mutual also hopes the funding will help it recruit and train up to 55 new youth work volunteers, and develop 10 new youth enterprises alongside 25 youth coaches in culture, arts and sports.

Chief Executive of Knowsley Youth Mutual, Sandra Richardson, said: “We are delighted with this investment in young people. It will go a long way to keeping our open access activities alive at a time of scarce resources, making a big difference to the lives of thousands of young people in Knowsley.”

Katie Hinton, Youth Secretary of the Knowsley Youth Mutual Rep Body, added: “What a fabulous opportunity for young people to be involved and valued. Our opinions matter and this is a great way to put our ideas for activities into action and grow our skills allowing us to further lead in the future work of KYM.”
